Celebrities With Fibromyalgia

There are a few celebrities with Fibromyalgia who have been open and honest about their diagnosis and how it has affected their lives. Living with and dealing with the many and varied Fibromyalgia symptoms is difficult and challenging for anyone.

But being in the public eye and being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia can be a blessing or a curse for celebrities. Famous people are in a privileged position as they are able to shine a light on conditions like Fibromyalgia. But the state of their health is forever in the spotlight.

Celebrities with Fibromyalgia

As with the wider population it is famous women, rather than men that make up the majority of celebrities with Fibromyalgia. These women from all walks of the entertainment industry  - broadcasters, comedians, actors and singers – have opened up about their battles with Fibromyalgia.

One of the most famous celebrities with Fibromyalgia is Lady Gaga. Other famous people with Fibromyalgia include Sinead O’Connor and Kirsty Young.

Lady Gaga

The American singer, songwriter and actress, Lady Gaga has spoken candidly and openly about her heath struggles and she is perhaps one of the most famous celebrities with Fibromyalgia.

I have written in more detail about Lady Gaga and her thoughts on Fibromyalgia.

Lady Gaga had to cancel the last 10 dates of the European leg of her Joanne World Tour in 2018 due to "severe pain".

The "tough decision" had been made with "strong support from her medical team".

"I'm so devastated I don't know how to describe it," Lady Gaga, 31, wrote. "All I know is that if I don't do this, I am not standing by the words or meaning of my music."

Later in a statement posted on Twitter, she apologised to fans and said she was "devastated", but needed to put "myself and my well-being" first.

Lady Gaga had already been hospitalised with "severe physical pain" and had to pull out of a performance at Rock in Rio in Brazil in September 2017.

Kirsty Young

The Scottish broadcaster, television and radio presenter Kirsty Young is just one of few celebrities with Fibromyalgia who has spoken about her health issues.

The BBC reported on 30th August 2018 that Desert Island Discs host Kirsty Young is taking a break from hosting because she has Fibromyalgia, and Lauren Laverne is sitting in for her.

Kirsty Young said: "Casting away some of the world's most fascinating people is a wonderful job - however, I'm having to take some time away from Desert Island Discs as I'm suffering from a form of Fibromyalgia.

I wish Lauren all the very best, I know she will be great. And I very much look forward to getting back to good health and back to work."

But in July 2019 Kirsty Young announced that she would not be returning to Desert Island Discs.

Sinead O’Connor

Irish singer and songwriter Sinead O’Connor has been open about her mental health issues and suffering from Fibromyalgia. To overcome and deal with the issues surrounding her health she tries to avoid stress and keep her life quiet and peaceful. This cannot be easy for the sometimes controversial singer.
